Hi,

Darkice kind of works and I guess might have improved over 2 or 3 years but my experiences were of "cool it works" rapidly into "why does it randomly crash every few hours/days", "why is my audio distorted horribly", "why does it glitch all the time", "why do I have to restart it every 10 hours to kind of keep it working overnight without being phoned at 3am".

I've had the following setup in production since some time in 2012.

http://pastebin.com/u/mezzfa0

It was liquidsoap, jack, icecast and rotter all on one box. I also made upstart scripts to keep everything ticking over. It works so well I've never had to touch the box for glitchy/technical reasons. Its always been for "management wants to also do X" reasons.

I did turn it off once when we moved buildings in January 2013. Which judging by the uptime is about right:

$ uptime
16:54:25 up 880 days, 20:46,  3 users,  load average: 0.17, 0.18, 0.15

I turned off real time mode but liquidsoap still won't connect. Now I don't get "strange errors', but I get a segmentation fault.

I am going to try darkice.

Hi,

Can't help you with anything but Debian/Ubuntu but I've had JACK in production since 2013. Its normally all down to the users that things run at. Suffice it to say, running everything as your logged in user is much easier than mixing root and things.

Jack also won't always start if you try using real time permissions on certain systems with certain cards. I never did find out why, I just stopped using real time mode.

I wish there were a comprehensive guide to getting Rivendell to work with JACK. I am finding JACK very frustrating and an immense time sink.

So far, I have managed to get it to work with Rivendell on Debian 7, but not Centos 6, where JACK cannot be persuaded to start.

On Debian 8, JACK will start, but nothing can connect to it. Liquidsoap tells me "strange error flushing buffer".

Methinks JACK is not ready for prime time.
