Tim, When I bild on a Ubuntu box the conf I use is:
./configure --libexecdir=/var/www/rd-bin --sysconfdir=/etc/apache2/conf-available then when all is said and done I make sure there is a link to rd-bin.conf from the /etc/apache2/conf-available folder /etc/apache2/conf-enabled so that when I restart apache it'll find the config for Rivendell.
