Michael, If my memory is correct, at one point there was a plan to have both an operations guide which would cover the how-to-use aspects of Rivendell (after a successful install) and a technical guide, covering stuff that a technical / administrator would need to know.
The technical guide never existed much beyond an outline of things to include in it and over time those topics mostly ended up in the operations guide and the Wiki. As a result the contents of what would have been the technical guide got merged in with the operations guide.
