Since the term "copyright" no longer reflects the proper intention of the script and has not for quite some time now, I modified the script to be specifically related to licensing. I have also renamed the script from "copyright" to "iou_license.pl" (iou = insert or update), which will avoid confusion with the existing "insert_license.pl" script in the relicense area. I've uploaded the
script to the following location:

https://svn.apache.org/repos/private/committers/relicense/src/perl/ iou_license.pl

The top of the file still contains usage instructions.

I've included a Perl script below that inserts and updates copyrights in a predefined set of text based files. This is the script that was used to update the copyright headers in the sources that were uploaded

Nice, thanks for sharing the script!

It would be great to have the script in the "relicense" folder in
https://svn.apache.org/repos/private/committers/. There are a few
other related scripts with varying degrees of functionality, and I
think this script would make a fine addition.

Sounds perfect. I was tempted to add it to the repository--thank you for
the suggestion. I'll upload it today.
