I'd expect uniform write and read permissions across all files,
which is why I found the question just about scripts odd.
I think one can identify files that should be protected against
accidental editing such as JAR files, source code, while there are files
that likely need customization, such as policy files, start scripts. So
to me non uniform write and read permissions ain't that odd, but njow I
realize that for some it might :-)
