Just in case someone wants to check the code in trunk:

I have a very important bug fix in my working copy that solved a problem with memory allocation in the 'worker' bridge and removed a foolish 'static' pointer that slipped my checks when I refactored the 2.2 code into the current trunk development. It hit only under heavy workload so I didn't noticed it at first. The current code in my working copy several times processed 30000 requests with a concurrency level set to 300 without a qualm. There is space for performance improvements.

I wanted to commit this stuff last night but minutes before I attempted it the infrastructure put the svn repository read-only. And it's been read-only for 8 hours now without estimation of when it will be switched back to read-write. If someone feels like they want to give it a try I can send the patch wrt the current trunk status
