A few years ago when I was working at one of those dream dot com consulting
firms (play games and eat free food all day then code all night (now
bankrupt)) we had a a big Robocode competition.
It is a really great way for someone new to Java or OOP in general to get
their hands dirty writing code. Its addictive too. I could probably even dig
out one of my old robots if we wanted to have a battle...
People make some really crazy ones - neural nets and stuff, but it is often
the simple ones that win. Go figure eh?
CodeRally sounds pretty fun - might be fun to dust off the old Java skills.
