Rick,

I have read time and again that k3b is the best cd and dvd burning GUI and I can vouch for it personally. The k3b team have maintained patches against cdrecord and cdrdao to get both of those packages working with direct ATAPI access, skipping the ide-scsi module completely as it should in the 2.6 kernels. The patches also fix minor nuances of both. Both cdrecord and cdrdao have since integrated the fixes. k3b is a great all-in-one tool for doing mastering. But, it does depend on other tools being installed (mkisofs, cdrecord, cdrdao, dvd+rw-tools, dvdauthor, etc... depending on how much you want to do with it).
