Dialup yes, but not DSL unfortunately. While we're going to be offering DSL shortly in the Sacramento LATA (assuming we can still offer it at all), Quincy is in the Chico LATA, and we have no immediate plans to expand in that area. I can recommend Sunset Net in Chico, though - http://www.sunset.net.

If it's dialup you're interested in, our Quincy access number is 530-280-0074.

We plan to be offering professional VoIP systems (NOT fly-by-night :-) around the September timeframe. We're working out the details now. The sort of VoIP we will be offering does VoIP only on our own network, and not over the open Internet, so quality of service is not an issue. PSTN-bound calls are handed
off to the PSTN here in Reno.

The biggest advantage is that the PBX features of the system are hosted with us, so you don't need to spend thousands of dollars on a box at your site. You only need to purchase phones and monthly service. (Think Centrex, but MANY more features, and probably cheaper.) Also, domestic long distance will probably be included, or at least flat rate. If you don't need PBX features, there's no real advantage. Though there are a LOT of spiffy PBX features that you just can't do with a regular PBX. Imagine having a single number that rings simultaneously at home, on your cell phone, and at work... and when you pick up any one of them, all the others stop ringing. Or, imagine that your voicemail box is just an IMAP email folder containing emails with WAV attachments.

Watch for an announcement around the end of August, or early September.

This isn't a Linux question but I thought some people on this list might
have experience installing or having a phone system installed.
A friend of mine is opening an office in Carson City and is going to
need a phone system setup for about a dozen stations. Does anybody on
this list do that sort of thing or know a good person/company who does?
Thanks for any help.

Bruce,

Does GreatBasin offer service in Quincy CA? Probably not.
