Dennis,

I've had new boxes fail with bad memory in the first year.
Sometimes overheating causes the memory stick to fail also.
Then after its cooled it works perfectly. 

You can pick up a CD ISO from http://www.memtest86.com/ its
useful on any x86 hardware for thourghly testing memory
problems. It used to come as a boot up option on Suse years
ago.
