I've installed on a couple of the Sil 311x line. Other than the strange ATA timeouts on the 3114R series (see previous post), I haven't had any problems with them in Linux. They are always detected, and always detect the drives. I would suggest using a livecd, like Knoppix or the Gentoo install disk, to see if the disks can be detected. My bet is that it will work.

Keep us posted on the results of your experiments, as I'd like to get a PCMCIA SATA card for my new laptop.

This is a bit off topic, but I was wondering if anybody has had any
experience with PCMCIA SATA controllers. I've just been through hell
trying to get a Silicon Image 3112 based card to work with my Dell 8600
laptop under XP no less. I just now admitted defeat.

Anyway, the thing that's weird about it, is that it works fine in my old
Inspiron 2650 running Windows 2000. This chipset is supported under
linux, and now I am wish I had Linux running naively on my laptop to see
if I could get it to work at all on the that hardware.
