Sadly, I had to leave the meeting on Thursday early due to having a class at 7pm.
I am starting DC775, a defcon (www.defcon.org) group, in Reno. I have had security minded people in classes with me, and that was in the IS department (ew), so I know there have to be others who would be interested in a group. The group will focus on computer security mainly but will not be limited to it. Meetings are open to all but, surely, this is not a "how to install <insert whatever here> for the average win/mac/whatever user". This also, as you may have guessed it, is not a Linux specific group; I will also try to control myself about it not being BSD specific either. The first talk will be covering the OpenBSD pf firewall (found in FreeBSD and NetBSD too) and also openvpn. DC775 is a part of a larger, local security group encompassing, entity called Negative Nine Security. Neg9 has groups in 707, 530, 805, 206, 859, New Zealand, and now the 775. So, if you are interested, join the forums and get involved. https://neg9.org/forum The actual DC775 site is: http://dc775.neg9.org There is also an IRC channel, #neg9 on EFNet.
