try to install libmysqlclient and libmysqlclient-dev
it worked for me, I used unstable though.

You're missing the mysql embedded library. You'll need to either get
Debian's mysql (etch) is not easy to link to because of yassl
dependance :-(
I'll try mysql 4.1 from source
