We are using it on 1.8.9 as well with one of our lustre installs.  Other 
lustres are 2.4+...  We plan to upgrade and get off of 1.8.9 in the very near 
future so not going to lose any sleep if 189 is not in RH v3.   Just raising 
hand as another 1.8.9 version user of RH =]
