Well, I am not sure if the NNTP server knows or needs to know all these things. Every mail and news posting contains references to previous postings which point to the message id. Therefore I don't think that you need to gate the mails to an NNTP server. Most MUAs and NNTP clients process the references and build the thread view by themselves. The mail archiver MHonArc does the same.
