(I was actually thinking about doing some of it for myself - since you may

I had no idea!
A couple of suggestions: 1) make use of default.wps that is being read (if
exists) every time you reset settings. this way you don't have to select
your WPS when settings version is changed and also can help first time users
to appreciate GUI more (I have to say I was quite shocked by it first time I
used it :) )
I don't see how this is related to my changes.
I'm not sure it helps much either since when people upgrade they very often
wipe their .rockbox dir and thus they'd wipe their "default.wps" file too...
I'd rather see us take the plunge to use a .cfg file correctly for settings as
they will be MUCH more resistant to upgrades than the config sector we use
today and that is a more complete take on problems like this.
2) what about RWPS? I know its not there yet, but since multi-screen support
is rapidly evolving it would be good to take that into account so that you
can load both WPS/RWPS at the same time.
I don't think they should be loaded at once automatically. IMHO, they should
remain independent. And .rwps files will load BMP images the exact same way as
.wps does (and since they use different extensions they can in fact use the
same directory for images)
