As you say, they're defined under a #ifdef __USE_BSD - so one solution is to pass the relevant options in CFLAGS to ensure __USE_BSD isn't defined.

Can this solution fix the build error without breaking something else?
I would like to build the patcher to try the installation method 2 as described in http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodPatcher#2_OSOS_contains_Rockbox_and_the but I have no wish to brick my DAP! ;-)
