Buttons outside of the UI area might be useful - skinners could do funky things like playback control in lists, etc. But I wouldn't fret over it if it's a major ball-ache to implement,
I'll have another look at FS#10804 (the touchscreen mode tag), as I can't remember what was blocking it from SVN. Probably nothing ;-)
