Musik und linke Politik in Berlin stehen in TON STEINE SCHERBEN: TOUR '83 und einer Retrospektive von Philipp Virus, der Musikvideos u.a. für Atari Teenage Riot und das Digital Hardcore Recordings Label realisiert hat, im Fokus. DON’T GO GENTLE: A FILM ABOUT IDLES porträtiert die britische Band, die als Sprachrohr der Ausgegrenzten und Abgehängten agiert. Bei A SONG CALLED HATE nutzt die isländische Band Hatari den European Song Contest in Tel Aviv für eine politische Intervention zum Palästina-Israel-Konflikt. 30 Jahre nach dem Ende der UdSSR untersuchen ROK ZA GRANYU – ROCK AM ANSCHLAG und BOX OF MATCHES alternativen Musikszenen in Russland – Rock, Postpunk, Hiphop und Turntablism - vom Spätsozialismus bis heute. BA(A)D SCHANDAU EXPRESS – THE GERMAN-HUNGARIAN ART POP TRIBUTE bringt AG.GEIGE und AE BIZOTTSÁG, zwei legendäre 80er Jahre Underground-Kollektive aus der DDR und Ungarn, miteinander und mit jüngeren Generationen von DIY-Musiker*innen zusammen, darunter auch der Hamburger Elektronik-Gesamtkünstler Felix Kubin. WE ALMOST LOST BOCHUM – DIE GESCHICHTE VON RAG lädt zur Wiederentdeckung der einflussreichen, aber in Vergessenheit geratenen Hiphop-Crew aus dem Pott ein. SOUL KIDS über die vom wegweisenden R&B-Label Stax Records betriebene Musikschule ist eine Oase der lieblicheren Klänge, in der gleichwohl wichtige Themen wie Bildung und die Verbesserung der Situation von Afro-Amerikaner*innen in USA angestimmt werden. Spielerisch und sehr meta geht es in dem Mockumentary THE NOWHERE INN (von und mit St. Vincent und Carrie Brownstein von Sleater Kinney) und im einstimmenden Programm über die Geschichte von Musik und Mockumentary zu, gleichzeitig werden Fragen über Realität, mediale Darstellung und Imagebildung angesprochen. In TERRE THAEMLITZ: GIVE UP ON HOPE AND DREAMS dekonstruiert die elektronische Musiker*in den Musikdokumentarfilm sowie sie Konventionen des Musikgeschäftes, Genderrollen und gesellschaftliche Normen in Frage stellt. BA(A)D SCHANDAU EXPRESS - THE GERMAN-HUNGARIAN ART POP TRIBUTE brings AG.GEIGE and AE BIZOTTSÁG, two legendary 80s underground collectives from the GDR and Hungary, together with each other and with younger generations of DIY musicians, including Hamburg-based electronic musician/multimedia artist Felix Kubin. WE ALMOST LOST BOCHUM – DIE GESCHICHTE VON RAG is a rediscovery of the influential but now somewhat forgotten hip hop crew from Germany’s industrial West. SOUL KIDS, about the music school run by the pioneering R&B label Stax Records, is an oasis of sweeter sounds that nevertheless addresses such important issues as better education and social/economic justice for African-Americans. The mockumentary THE NOWHERE INN (written by and starring St. Vincent and Carrie Brownstein of Sleater Kinney) and the introductory program about the history of music and mockumentaries are playful and very meta, while at the same time raising questions about reality, media representation and image building. In TERRE THAEMLITZ: GIVE UP ON HOPE AND DREAMS the electronic musician deconstructs the music documentary as part of her overall aesthetic project of questioning conventions of the music business, gender roles and social norms.
