Pat O'Neill The Decay of Fiction Dienstag, 25. April, 20 Uhr Pat ONeill ist seit den 60er Jahren einer der renommiertesten amerikanischen Avantgardefilmer, und er ist einer von wenigen, der gleichzeitig ihr Geld in der kommerziellen Filmindustrie verdienen. So schuf er mit seiner Firma Lookout Mountains Films die Effekte für Hollywood-Filme wie "Die Rückkehr der Jedi Ritter" oder "The Game". The Decay of Fiction ist ein Film über das legendäre Hotel "Ambassador" in Hollywood, ein heute verfallenes, morbides und dem Abriss preisgegebenes Gebäude. Pat ONeill ist hineingegangen, hat das einst prunkhafte Foyer durchschritten, das riesige Restaurant, die dahinter liegende Bar, schließlich das Casino und die Zimmer bis zur Luxus-Suite. Die Wände sind gerissen und blättern ab, der Rasen ist braun und Schimmel wächst auf den feuchten Teppichen des Cocoanut Grove. Das Schwimmbad ist leer und der Ballsaal, in dem Bobby Kennedy starb, ist verriegelt und die Fensterläden sind geschlossen. Diese Ruine trägt eine große Last an Erinnerungen, die der Filmemacher in einer Kreuzung aus Wirklichkeit und Halluzination wieder zum Leben erweckt. Apart from that he earns his money also in the commerical film business. With his company Lookout Mountains Films he produced the effects for Hollywoodfilms like "The Return of the Jedi" and "The Game". "The Decay of Fiction" is a film based on the legendary Hotel Ambassador in Hollywood, that today is a decayed, morbid building that was taken down recently. Pat O'Neill filmed the once luxurious lobby, the giant restaurant and the adjoined bar, the casino and the rooms, including the luxurious suites. The walls have cracks and the color is peeling off, the green is brown and the carpets of the famous Coconut Grove are covered with mould. The swimming pool is empty and the ball room, in which Bobby Kennedy was dying, is locked, the windows closed. This ruin is filled with memories, which O'Neill brings back to life through intertwining reality and hallucination.
