Oktober das internationale backup_festival statt. Das Weimarer E-Werk wird während des Festivals nicht nur Kurzfilme, sondern auch diverse andere Kunstprojekte präsentieren: Im Mittelpunkt des Festivals steht der backup.award, ein Wettbewerb nationaler und internationaler Kurzfilmproduktionen, die das Thema „Neue Medien“ aufgreifen. Von be-sonderem Interesse ist dabei die Auseinandersetzung mit digitalen Produktionsmitteln und ihr Einfluss auf Erzählstrukturen sowie auf die Kurzfilmkultur und die Selbstreflexion des Mediums Film. Mit dem internationalen backup.clipaward sollen Videoclips ausgezeichnet werden, die auf innovative Weise die Verknüpfung von Bewegtbild und Musik thematisieren. Im backup.plaintext Wettbewerb wird zur Einreichung essayistisch-feuilletonistischer Texte aufgerufen, die sich mit dem Thema „Aktualität des Kinos als politische Bühne“ auseinandersetzen. Die Texte sollten nicht länger als ca. 2000 Wörter sein. Wettbewerbsbeiträge für den backup.award, den backup.clipaward sowie back-up.plaintext können ab sofort noch bis zum 31. Juli eingereicht werden. Nähere Informationen zu Teilnahmebedingungen und zum Festival sind unter www.backup-festival.de finden. Eine unabhängige Jury aus Film- und Fernsehma-chern, Produzenten und Medientheoretikern wird die jeweils besten Beiträge prämieren. Auch außerhalb der Wettbewerbe hält das backup.festival ein breites Spektrum kultu-reller Angebote bereit: Im backup.forum werden Kurzfilm- und Videoarbeiten internati-onaler Partnerfestivals und –hochschulen aus Osteuropa, Frankreich und – erstmals – aus China gezeigt. Filme der letzten zehn Jahre, die im Umfeld der Bauhaus-Universität Wei-mar entstanden sind, werden im Forum Best of Bauhaus präsentiert. Filmemachern, Studierenden und dem allgemein filminteressierten Besucher wird in Form des backup.closeup (Podiumsdiskussionen mit Filmemachern und Medientheoretikern) und des backup.lounge|lab (offene Raum- und Klanginstallationen) die Möglichkeit ei-nes Dialogs eröffnet. Nicht zuletzt der backup.club, in dessen Rahmen die Festivalnächte mit Konzerten und DJs gefeiert werden, hat das Festival innerhalb der letzten Jahre zu einem echten Publi-kumsmagneten gemacht. ------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------- This year the backup_festival takes place in Weimar for the 8th time from October 19th till 22th. Not only shortfilms are presented at the former industrial area of the eWerk but also a big range of other artistic projects: The backup.award is in the centre of the festival a competition of national and international short film movies apprehending the topic of “new media”. The examination of digital means of production and their influence on narrative structures and reflection of the medium film itself is of special interest. The international backup.clipaward honors videoclips, connecting motionpicture and music in an especially innovative way. Texts written in an essayistic style concerning the topic “Contemporary cinema as a political stage” can be handed in for the competition of backup.plaintext. The articles should not contain more than 2000 words. Contributions to backup.award, backup.clipaward and backup.plaintext can be handed in by July 31st 2006. Closer information on participation conditions and the festival itself can be found at www.backup-festival.de. The best contributions of each category will be awarded by an independent jury of film and TV makers, producers and media theorists. Besides the competitions the festival also offers a variety of other cultural supplies: international short films from partner festivals and universities in France, Eastern Europe and – for the first time – China can be regarded in backup.forum. Films made at the Bauhaus University Weimar over the last ten years are shown in the forum Best of Bauhaus. The chance of discussing is offered to filmmakers, students and generally film-interested visitors in the backup.closeup including panel discussions with several filmmakers and media theorists. The backup.loungelab contains an extraordinary selection of artistic room- and sound-installations which can also be considered as a possibility for open dialogs with the creators.
