do we really need to do this for 2.0? i think we've done enough for 2.0, can we do this later?

Yeah. I'm not happy with our theme lineup either.

We can't delete the old themes, because that will break existing users,
but perhaps we should introduce a config property to limit the number
of themes made available for new blogs.  By default it would include
only the half-dozen themes that don't suck and that we want to continue
to support. Maybe like this:

   # List of themes to be offered to new users
   users.themes.enabled=\
   basic,brushedmetal,currency,movablemanila,robot,sotto,sunsets,x2

We've already had one user ask for this.
