I don't know about MySQL 5.x, but the instructions posted here work for 4.1.x:

http://rollerweblogger.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=SetupUTF8onMySQL

You need to do the equivalent for 5.x; they may work as is, or you may have to check the 5.x docs for the precise equivalents.

Great! When I change mysql jdbc driver to 3.1.11, the problem ""Data too
long for column '*******'"" is gone! Thanks a lot.

But I met another problem. Now I only can post English titles with English
text bodis. When I post an Chinese text, I got the following exception:

aused by: java.sql.SQLException: Illegal mix of collations
(latin1_swedish_ci,IMPLICIT) and (utf8_general_ci,COERCIBLE) for operation
'='
....

So, what shall I do now? I know it is something about mysql, I tried but
can't got the solution.
BTW, I have tried roller1.3 with msql4.1.X, it support bothe Chinese and
English very well.

Thanks again!

Try the latest MySQL JDBC Driver - I believe the version is 3.1.11.

Which specific MySQL 5.x server version are you using and
which JDBC
driver are you using?

mysql-5.0.16 and JDBC driver: mysql-connector-java-3.0.17.

And I found for every column whose type is "bit" there is
always an error:
"Data too long for column '*******'".

Thans a lot!
