  Exactly, but these extensions makes a Blog client a bit more powerful. Things 
like specifyin Trackbacks are supported with MT and not Metaweblog.
   
  MT API's seem to be more like an enhancement over Metaweblog, the same way 
Metaweblog was over Blogger protocol.

You can't remove the category from a Roller entry. All entries are
required to have a cat.

Atom protocol support is under development and will be enabled when
Atom protocol is finalized. And isn't MT just a set of MovableType
proprietary extensions to MetaWeblog?
