Emacs won the last 6 years as best editor for programming and only this LAST
year was displaced... by
VIM (which is far from VI, but is still VI).

Refer to slashdot.org article announcement about 3 months ago.

emacs has mouse scrolling, windowing, full editing, and compiling. It is a
FULL IDE (Integrated Development Environment).  I am sorry you have not
learned Emacs.  VI is for those who wish to learn.. well  limited scope of
commands but it gets you a lot of places.

QuickEDITOR or MED (Memory Resident Editor) in the old DOS days was
something to behold too.
