That's not what you said before, you said it wasn't "handed out on every
server". I said it was widely avaialable.

X is only unsafe if you don't run it safely.
I install X client utilities on all my servers, and don't run the GUI server
(which is where the weaknesses you are speaking if typically reside)
There have been few security problems with X clients compared to X servers.
Furthermore,

Has no X linking. Which means you can install the program without X, or if
you are on someone else's server with restricted access, in your own
directory.
