So that I dont only read interesting posts from others, I decided to post a 
helpful message too - first one, heh.

Well, two places I found a few c++ codebases at were surprisingly freshmeat.net 
(under games - mud, which leads to http://freshmeat.net/browse/86/?topic_id=86) 
and mudranger.com (mud category).

One codebase (also in c++), which I found very interesting by its ideas, 
philosophy and programmatic structure is the AIME codebase at 
http://aime.sourceforge.net.

I hope this gave you a few pointers ...
