Hello All,
In regards to the reply that MrPotatoHead submitted, I thought I'd
start a new thread and try to get things going correctly instead of
adding on to the old burnt out thread.
*sigh*
In other words, we're fixing to rehash every substantive response in a
new thread. I'm beginning to appreciate killfiles again. C'est la vie.
This is by no means to start a flamewar nor am I saying that using a
DB simply can't be done.. But I'd like to learn more about this
myself, see some examples and find some Production Muds w/ 100+ active
players, who are actively using this concept.. If there is proof that
it is proven and working, then I may look into it more myself. I'm
always willing to do or try something new. But at this time, I see
nothing other than a bunch of hearsay on every mud related forum I
come across.
If you know of or think otherwise, I'd be glad to hear it.

Its been said, in many, many, MANY replies within the "old burnt out
thread":
SQL databases provide some solutions for some problems. It is not the
only solution. It is not always the best solution. If you do not see the
value of it, especially after "years of experience with php/mysql..",
then I fail to see why the members of this list need to validate its
usage as a technology within muds and prove its value. Especially when
it's quite clear that anything we say will just be hearsay, unless we
slap out our entire codebase for a production mud that meets your
shifting standards of proof.
So far, it seems the only thing you have to offer on the subject is "The
problem I see is that everyone talks about how easy it is.. But the fact
is, it's not easy."
We get that. You don't have to start a new thread every few days to tell
us so.
