You shouldn't add social.txt to area.lst as it's not an area file. Social.txt is loaded by the function load_social_table. You also can't just rename social.are to social.txt, the two files are not in the same format, you either need to convert social.are to the right format or start over adding your socials from scratch. If I remember correctly the sedit snippet came with a function to convert your social.are to social.txt before you added the code to load social.txt, if it didn't it wouldn't be hard to write one though.
