"Carmen Sylva" High school and Bridges for Education, inc, have the pleasure to
invite youth from throughout Europe to an international summer Camp in
Timisoara, Romania. The Camp will start classes on Monday, July 18th and end on
Friday, August 5th. Students may arrive on Sunday, July 17th, and leave on
Saturday, August 5th.
******The purpose of Bridges for Education is to promote tolerance
and understanding using English as a bridge.********
Bridges for Education was founded in 1994 in response to the increasing need
for educational assistance in Central and Eastern Europe. It is a New York
State incorporated, not for profit, educational organization and is approved to
receive tax deductible donations under federal code 501 (c)(3). It also has non
profit status in Canada through Canadian Charities. It is not a religious or
ethnic organization. All volunteer teachers are recruited without regard to
their ethnic, religious or racial backgrounds.
BFE teachers are volunteers who pay their own airfare and BFE administrative
expenses for dictionaries and t shirts and teaching supplies and for
international scholarships. They receive no payment except for three weeks free
room and board and one week travel in the country.(They also contribute to that
cost.)
To date, BFE has organized 79 camps sending approximately 900 teachers to
eight countries serving about 10,000 students from 37 countries.
For the last seven years BFE has been organizing camps in Romania.
Romanian students have joined our camps in Poland, Bulgaria, Belarus, and
Hungary.

different countries, cultures and herself/ himself, to make new friends. If you
want to join us in a wonderful experience, we are waiting for you in Timisoara.
Teachers and students
The English lessons will be held by professional American and Canadian
teachers. Their methods of teaching are very attractive: activities for
developing attention, memory, receptivity, will alternate with funny and
competitive games and contests. The success of these English camps is ensured
by the close cooperation between the American and international teachers.
Apart from the English language study, the program of the camp events consists
of different sports activities, cultural and entertainment shows that help
students to learn about other countries and about each other. As an
international camp, we want to invite students from all over Europe: Moldova,
Belarus, Estonia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Serbia, France, Italy, Georgia,
Chechnya, Poland, etc. At the same time we wish to participate in the student
exchanges by sending Romanian students to the BFE English camps in other
countries.
Facilities
Due to its beauty, Timisoara was called "the city of flowers". This city prides
itself with its elegant baroque squares, churches of many faiths, new German
and French libraries and a pedestrian only, downtown. Timisoara is an excellent
place to wind down.
We chose "Carmen Sylva" High school due to the special conditions it offers to
both teachers and students: classrooms with modern furniture, sport fields,
gym, a 100 seat cafeteria. Dormitories have been recently renovated and
students will be accommodated 4 - 6 to a room. The camp will also provide free
transport on all the buses and trams in the city for 3 weeks for both teachers
and students, access to the internet and international pay-phones. If you want
to convince yourself just View the
Camp Site.
At the beginning of the camp all students will receive the rules of the camp
that would have to obey to. A map of Timisoara will be available, so students
will be able to locate the main points of interest: banks, parks, restaurants
etc. The Romanian staff is composed of people with strong personalities who
manifest a genuine passion in working with children.
English studies
English lessons take place every morning (9 - 12) and there are activities in
the afternoon except for the week ends when trips are planed for people to
learn more about Romania. Students learn in small groups according to their
English language levels. Outside the classroom, students use English as well.
BFE provides dictionaries and T shirts for all the students. There are no extra
charges for supplies. ALL THE PARTICIPANTS EARN AN OFFICIAL BFE CERTIFICATE AT
THE END OF THE CAMP FOR SUCCESSFUL ATTENDANCE AND COMPLETION OF THE PROGRAMME.
Cost
The cost of the camp is 350 Euro per student for three weeks accommodation and
3 meals a day, all teaching materials, lessons and activities, and 2 weekend
travels if the application deposit is paid by May 25. After this date the cost
will be 375 Euro. There will be an additional security deposit of 30 euro which
will be returned if there are no damages to the facility.
We are looking forward to sharing a wonderful experience with you.
