Description: PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES:
Structuring the ERA

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
Scientific and technological excellence is essential pre-requisites for Europe to succeed in the competitive environment of international research and scientific development. The Descartes Prize for Research has been awarded yearly, since 2000, to transnational research teams which have achieved outstanding scientific or technological results through collaborative research in any field of science, including economics, social sciences and humanities. The Descartes Prize for Research was complemented with a new Descartes Prize for Science Communication in 2004. By means of this new prize, the European Commission intends:
- To stimulate interest and careers in science communication.
- To improve the quality of science communication with the public.

ELIGIBLE ACTIVITIES:
For research projects, the elligibility criteria are:
Excellence and quality of the proposal
European added value
! Research teams or nominating bodies can only present one project per proposal

For Rene Descartes Communication, the criteria are:
Excellence and quality of the proposal
Relevance and impact
European added value

DEADLINE:
4 May 2006, 17:00 (Brussels local time)

WHERE TO APPLY:
Proposals for indirect RTD actions under area Descartes Prize (research) are invited to be submitted only as an electronic proposal via the web-based Electronic
Proposal Submission System (EPSS)
