Prototype of $100 Laptops Ready for November The Prototype of $100 laptops expected to close the gap between the rich and poor in the world will be ready in November and its production will begin in 2007. The inventor of the laptop and the head of the Media lab at MIT, Nicholas Negroponte, said 15 million laptops will be manufactured in Boston within the first year and the revenue will be donated to children living in Brazil, Egypt, Thailand, and South Africa.
