I have completed some research in a college of further education in
the UK looking at the attitudes and understanding of existing
teachers in adult education about dyslexia. I also interviewed 2
dyslexic teachers to understand how they feel about the support they
get from their colleagues and the law.

The results show that there is a general lack of awareness of
dyslexia by teachers in the UK, especially from those in more
practical vocational areas. In addition, dyslexic teachers feel
they do not get enough support. Teachers' abilities to support
their co-workers have a direct consequence on how they support the
adult learners that they teach.

I would like to repeat this study with some additional adult
education institutions in Europe, with the intention of producing a
set of guidelines/book to use in initial teacher training for new
teachers and in-house training for existing teachers.

This idea is, of course, open to discussion.

Since my study I have delivered some workshops within my college
which have been very successful.

Please contact me if you are interested in participating, NOT BY

The next stage will be for each country to complete a form to secure
funding for a Preparatory Meeting. I aim to hold this initial
meeting in one of the countries participating (offers to host the
meeting are welcome!)in January 2007, so that we can prepare a G2
project application for 1st March 2007.
