BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) -- Dina Cocea, the aristocratic "queen of
Romanian theater" who performed over 100 roles in a career spanning
more than 50 years, has died at age 95.

Ion Caramitru, director of the National Theater, says Cocea died
Tuesday in the Floreasca hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Cocea studied theater in Paris and had her debut on the French stage in
1934, before returning to Romania a year later. Besides the theater, she
starred in a dozen films and represented Romania at the United Nations
cultural agency, UNESCO.

But it was her beauty, talent and aura of dignity that prompted one
Romanian theater expert to dub her "the queen of Romanian theater."

Cocea was the daughter of Romanian writer N.D. Cocea and actress
Alicia Cocea.

Funeral arrangements were not immediately known
