Hi all, I am writing to you concerning a special case related to a fundraising in order to help a special person within my life which suffers of leukemia. Some people with leukemia must receive a stem cell transplant. A stem cell transplant allows you to be treated with high doses of drugs, radiation, or both. The high doses destroy both leukemia cells and normal blood cells in the bone marrow. After you receive highdose chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or both, you receive healthy stem cells through a large vein. (It's like getting a blood transfusion.) New blood cells develop from the transplanted stem cells. The new blood cells replace the ones that were destroyed by treatment. Unfortunately this transplant costs 150.000 US dollars in our case.

AML affects myeloid cells and grows quickly and it accounts for more than 13,000 new cases of leukemia each year. Everything became surreal because he's always been so healthy. For those who are interested, within the attached files you may see the invoices for the treatments made up to know and the exact total amounts stated by the clinic for this transplant. Due to the low level of healthcare and sanitary system within Romania we were suggested to send him abroad for the chemotherapy in order to keep him alive till a donor/best match will be found. The Romanian state already subventioned the cost of the transplant after long fights and argues. As well, after so many researches made in the Romanian hospitals, he was sent in december 2009 for other blood tests in Israel. >From january 2010 till today he was hospitalized in Israel- Tel-Aviv at >the Medical Center(Sourasky/Ichilov). The total costs of his treatments sum up >to now 82.000 US dollars, money that were withdrawn from the subvention given >by the Romanian state. Two weeks ago we were announced that a donor has been found (from Germany) through the international bone marrow donation registry, and if the money will be transferred to the Medical Center specified above they will make the transplant procedures asap. So practically we are hanging on the hope to raise up the money. Even if this family will sell their house it will not be enough. But then what will happen with his wife and his 3 years old son? Did you know that: Every 10 minutes blood cancer takes a life? Leukemia is the most common disease children and young adults die of, and a bone marrow transplant may be their only chance for survival? Only 3 out of every 10 patients will receive the transplant that could save their lives and only 0.5 out of every 10 patients in Romania? I don't want anyone in this world to ever have to wait for a bone-marrow donor, or even to have the uncertainty of finding someone. Every dollar counts and if there is anybody willing and capable to give a hand, he/she may do so by donating any sum at all into the below mentioned bank accounts open at BCR bank - Galati branch - holder GIRLESCU DANIELA MIRELA ( his sister) RO73RNCB0141039862600002 - account in EURO RO03RNCB0141039862600001 - account in RON (romania) RO46RNCB0141039862600003 - account in US DOLLARS Also you may donate directly at the nonguvernmental association in charge of Cristian's case: ARTEST Association Bank account in RON (IBAN):RO09BTRL02401205F00510XX - IASI Branch Please specify the alternative account especially dedicated for his case: 251100010246F00510 CRISTIAN GARLESCU Your contribution means a lot and it will really help a great cause. Thank you in advance for your support and understanding. If you could at least send this message forward on it would mean a lot. With kind regards, Cristina Garlescu [editat]
