I don't even know what "--as-needed" is.  Where did it come from?  
   
 Regarding the Easy Install script ... it isn't intended to be kept for 
later use.  Only the version on the web site at the time of installation 
is ever guaranteed to be the right version.  That's why the web site tells 
you to pipe curl through sh.
