Never mind. It was a bug in my override of the load() method within Bill::DB::Object::Acct (didn't shift from @_ before calling $self->SUPER::load(@_).

My understanding is that "speculative => 1" should force it to return 0. I'm running on the latest SVN version of Rose::DB and Rose::DB::Object.
