Hmm, not as simple as it seems. I get a warning (now error) from every file in sound/ because of the -I/usr/local/include that's now given on the command line as the JACK include option:
cc1plus: changing search order for system directory "/usr/local/include" cc1plus: as it has already been specified as a non-system directory (any thoughts on circumventing that one?) ... and I get a warning (now error) from jack/transport.h: /usr/local/include/jack/transport.h:42: warning: comma at end of enumerator list /usr/local/include/jack/transport.h:54: warning: comma at end of enumerator list /usr/local/include/jack/transport.h:345: warning: comma at end of enumerator list I'll see if I can get through my --without-jack test build with -Werror, and if so I'll configure with it there and without elsewhere.
