Yeah, it probably is the perfect word in this context. OK, so no bug. I
don't actually care, since I never use the external connection thing anyway.
I just thought it was a bug.

Yeah, I got some piece of crap by some guy named Loco-Caballos or something
like that. ;)

Wild.

This is interesting. The keyboard is sending three notes, on channels 1, 14,
and 15. I knew about that, but I forgot all about it. It's been configured
that way for years. It's a stupid keyboard, and it *always* has to send
three notes. There's no way to turn that off. All you can do is configure
which channel they go on. In Cakewalk, there was a MIDI filter with
checkboxes for the in-coming channels. I used to have to turn off 14 and 15
to avoid recording three copies of every note.

Here's what happens. Keyboard sends three note ons on three channels,
Rosegarden sends three note ons on whatever channel the track I'm playing on
is set for (channel n.) Keyboard sends three note offs on three channels.
Rosegarden sends *two* note offs on channel n. The missing note-off is where
the sustain effect is coming from. Rosegarden is definitely missing a note
off, which is the root of this problem. The damn strange thing is that I've
tried 1.0, and it's doing the same thing. It sure never did that before, I
assure you!

I looked back at things I recorded with fairly recent CVS, and there are no
triplicate notes. No triplicate notes with things I did with 1.0 either.
However, recording with 1.0 today, I clearly see three notes for every key I
pressed showing up in the event list, and likewise with CVS.

So something changed, but it apparently wasn't Rosegarden.

It's very strange to me that this problem with my keyboard never showed up
before. I should have asked for a MIDI filter to cull the useless extra
notes three years ago. I had forgotten all about it, but I now have clear
memories of having to do this in Cakewalk.

Pretty damn strange. Any theories about what changed?

So I've got two problems now. One, I need to be able to cull the extra notes
from these superfluous channels, and two, this missing note off is a real and
tangible problem. 1.0 is doing the same thing. My ALSA and all that whatnot
has not changed since before the new STG came out, so that's not it.

Strange, strange, strange. It's almost like the keyboard has just been
transmitting on one channel all these years, and it decided to go back into
stupid mode. Perhaps because I moved it to a location 3' higher in the air,
and the change in elevation confused it. It's an old Fatar controller
keyboard. Bare bones, the most Spartan user interface ever conceived, and
it's 80 pounds of mostly metal.

This channel thing is an old annoyance, and one I used to be able to deal
with. I'd hate for this alone to be the reason I finally have to put this
beast down and replace it with some chintzy little piece of plastic.

The most mystifying thing of all, though, is why now? Why don't my old
recordings have triplicate notes? What changed?

Maybe I should use this as an opportunity to justify buying a new keyboard
that has a better synth in it than my old Sound Canvas. :D If I can borrow
about $1500 from one of you kind gentlemen. LOL!
