Visually, I like the idea of a controller event, that fills the gap, as a bar
until the next event. That is typically the case of many MIDI controller
messages. They are persistent until overridden.
The issue with this is inserting events graphically. When you try to insert an
event, the gui will try to think you are selecting the bar--if you happen to be
hovering over an existing bar when attempting to insert an event. This will be
most apparent when adding events after the last event ruler event.
I also think the limited width, or color diamonds that Tommi worked on has
appeal. This approach show the distinctiveness of each event without regard to
it's temporal nature. Also it allows a minimalistic view on the events and
allows easy insertion of new events in between events, and at the end.
So, my answer is, I like both methods. Can we have all the methods options
available and switch among them: Diamonds, thin bars, and continuous bars?
Well, since you are rewriting the whole thing anyhow, I might as swell as for
the moon and stars. LOL!
