I've been debating whether to leave that up, or take it down again. I do hate begging, and above all, I don't want to make some sort of false contract. I don't think I'll ever be back at full strength again, to be perfectly honest. At my peak, I was logging 40 or more hours a week working on this project on top of a day job, and my wife called herself the "Rosegarden widow." After I pushed the team through to the release of 10.02 last year, I decided to let Rosegarden coast while I concentrated on improving my career situation. It was an interesting and fruitful year in a lot of ways, but I did not achieve any improvement of my immediate situation for all the time and money I poured down the well. I came out of 2010 with a new mission. Beginning in October, I began an intensive and rigorous Spanish language immersion program of my own design, to prepare myself for the teacher licensure qualification exam. I lived and breathed the language as much as possible for some guy living in a small town in America whose family speaks only one language. I sat for that exam last Saturday. I did well for someone who hasn't seen the inside of a classroom in nearly 20 years, but not so well that I am certain I passed on the first try. I know I lost points here and there, and I know I did exceedingly well in other areas, but I have no idea how it's all going to mix together into my final score. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting on that result. Once I get these exams behind me, I hope to go back to school this fall, and then to be at the mercy of the job market this time next year. I should be able to get endorsed in multiple areas, but Spanish is my best foot to put forward. It is difficult to say what all of this means for Rosegarden, so I have misgivings about committing more of my time and resources than I have to spare. On the other hand, helping me finance this little campaign to finally get a real job doing something worthy of my time is a great way for the Rosegarden community to thank me for the many long hours I served getting things this far. I've updated the Rosegarden website and our donations page to reflect all of this. I'm glad you prompted me to address this, instead of sitting back with vague misgivings about making an implied contract I might not be able to honor. I really appreciate the donations too! If anybody wants to see where some of the funds have been invested recently, I've stuck an image up at this address that probably speaks for itself: http://rosegardenmusic.com/images/libros-de-rosegarden.jpg -- D.
