I've had that problem in the past with version 14.02 (from the kxstudio repos) on my debian amd64 box. The situation is exactly the same, suddenly only the selected track plays. I remember it used to happend when I fiddled with a track's channel number. I've since upgraded to the develpment version and haven't seen the problem again. If you have already put some work on your piece but you can't recover it, the only way I found to dodge this is to export to MIDI and then import in a new session.
