Good morning.
I have checked out the step time input from midi in rosegarden (I have
a midi guitar). I'm a classical guitarist and most of the input will be
shifting between durations and will be contrapuntal. Just to play this
in as separate voices is actually a good exercise in bringing out the
voices (or even seeing them in the first place) but really awkward to
do.
I think... from my tinkering... that half of the awkwardness (entering
notes OR chords) can be remedied by just choosing chord entry as this
also accepts single notes. But with chord entry the assumption seems to
be that we are going to enter the notes of the chord sequentially
(which, in fairness is true with a strummed chord) but, as such, the
cursor does not advance in chord mode and a separate key press is
required to manually advance it.
So... a few questions:
First and foremost, I say I have been tinkering. For those of you who
have properly examined what I've said... am I right so far?Is it
possible to hit that "advance" button via a midi controller such as a
foots witch (and, if so, how)?Take a look at this:
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaGsPCKihC8>. The language is not
English but just watch from about 3:45. Here we have real time input
into Notion notation package: single notes, chords, no manual
advancing. This is what I'm trying to achive. Both Rosegarden and
Denemo say this is too error prone to be worth it. Seems very good
here. Is this, in any way, possible in Rosegarden? Is the above possible
in ANY linux software?Another thing Notion offers is tight integration
with STudio One (I have used them both). Studio One includes Melodyne
and I have seen attempts to enter polyphonic audio into Melodyne then
use that software to create the midi then use the midi to create the
notation. Has anybody had any success with Sonic Visualiser (the only
alternative to Melodyne that I'm aware of) in achieving decent results
(accurate notation)?
Apologies for the somewhat broad question. I love Linux and, while
Notion on a Mac or PC seems to do exactly what I want, if I can do it
in Linux I'll do it in Linux. If I can find a way of "advancing" in
chord input mode in Rosegarden with a footswitch, this might be, just,
acceptable. But, obviously, I'd rather be able to do what the guy in
the video can do.
Mike
