Hi Denis,

Sure, that's trivial. In fact, anyone could do that with the information
published by RIPE NCC and the other RIRs ;)

The ripe-nonauth.db.gz on ftp.ripe.net/ripe/dbase holds 2294 aut-num
objects.

100 of these ASNs are, at present, unregistered, not listed in any of
the RIR's delegated stats files[1]. Except for AS266842, they had been
allocated in the past. Some were de-registered in the last few months,
others haven't been seen in any of the delegated stats for over a
decade.

82 of the 100 unregistered are referenced in a total of 667 route(6)
objects. Looking at BGP, 15 of the unregistered ASNs were seen by RIS
in this morning's routing table dumps, originating a total of 395
prefixes.

Leaving that to the working-group to discuss.

Hi all

Every week I get this email and usually just delete it. But as we have just been discussing cleaning up RIPE-NONAUTH I decided to look at it this week. I have some questions now.

It includes these lines:
Prefixes from unregistered ASNs in the Routing Table:                45
Number of instances of unregistered ASNs:                        45

This is up 1 from the previous weeks total of 44. Further down the email is a list and item 3 on this list is:

  266842 UNALLOCATED 45.238.156.0/22 265680 HNTELCO S.A, HN

AS266842 is listed as unallocated. But in RIPE-NONAUTH we have these objects:

  * aut-num: as266842

Both objects created shortly before RIPE-NONAUTH was locked down. HNHOSTING appears to be a company based in Costa Rica. They are registered in Lacnic´s DB with an allocation issued the day before these objects were created in the RIPE DB.

I don´t know why a company with legitimate address space would route it with an unallocated ASN, if in fact they created the route. But the point I want to make concerns the fact that these objects exist in RIPE-NONAUTH and have made it to the global routing table.

Perhaps the RIPE NCC can check how many AUT-NUM objects exist in RIPE-NONAUTH for unregistered ASN´s and how many ROUTE(6) objects reference them. In terms of a cleanup is there any argument for not doing a one time cleanup of all objects in RIPE-NONAUTH related to unregistered ASN´s?

cheers
