configure it to 'OFF'
the keyboard can also be reconfigured inside RISC OS. So check with
the RISC OS configuration (double click !boot) and then click 'input'
and next keyboard.
Set it to 'USA' then most problems are gone.

It has been so long since I have needed to go to the RISC OS Configuration
choices that I had completely forgotten that these were available.
Both now set appropriately and on a brief test appear to working like a
'bought one'.
