Adding 512 bytes alone did not help. But I found a thread from a while ago (thanks to Ralph Corderoy and Phil Morris) where Hugo Fiennes posted a small C program chk.c which made the hard disc image usable. Now I "just" have got the task ahead of me of creating a boot sequence which works equally well for RISC OS 4.02 and RISC OS 5.17 so that I can "dual-boot" depending on whether I have to access my content on the copied hard disc image (using RISC OS 4.02) or just want to work with HostFS and the later RISC OS 5.17.
