was ALSA. Have now tried all 5x driver types, including none. But still get the
same issue; slightly different in additional threads.

Does that mean you have PA either uninstalled or disabled ?
Which audio driver do you have set ?

Would you like to post the rpm and debuginfo that you have built somewhere;
perhaps it is some build problem on my machines ?
