There is a (limited) compatibility layer:
http://rpy.sourceforge.net/rpy2/doc-2.1/html/rpy_classic.html

Note that 2.1.0 should be released relatively soon, and it has
incompatible changes with 2.0.x. You may want to consider starting with it.
