Strange.
I tried to rcp the same file between various systems (Solaris 7 and 8 at
various patch levels) with no problem. May be the problem lies somewhere
else? A classic is that there is something in the remote $HOME/.cshrc or
$HOME/.profile that causes some output (e.g. displaying /etc/motd)  which
throws off the rcp protocol: (from the rcp(1) manual page)

|     rcp  can become confused by output generated by commands  in
|     a $HOME/.profile on the remote host.
