Sadly the compiler on this machine reports:

configure:5002: cc -c -Ae -DHAVE_CONFIG_H  conftest.c >&5

(Bundled) cc: "configure", line 4987: error 1705: Function prototypes are an ANSI 
feature.

We have access to the professional compiler kit, but I wanted to see
if it would work with the stock compiler.
